LEST WE FORGET 209 LOWTHER, Roy Woodside WWII Roy was born in Davidson, Saskatchewan on February 17, 1924. He enlisted in the Air Force at the age of eighteen. After training in Manitoba and Quebec, he was deployed to England for further aircrew training before eventually being assigned to 149 Squadron in Lakenheath, England. He served as an Air Gunner aboard a Sterling III alongside six members of RAF Volunteer Reserve. On April 19, 1944, at 20:30, their plane left Lakenheath for a mine laying mission over Kiel Bay along with twelve other planes. Roy’s plane was the only one not to return that night and he was presumed killed in action. An application for him to be commissioned as a Pilot Officer was approved the day before his last mission. MACHAN, John WWII John was born in Antler, Saskatchewan in 1914. He joined the Air Force and served in Canada during World War II. John passed away in 2004. MacDOUGALL, Stewart Gordon WWII Stewart was born in Craven, Saskatchewan in 1918. He served in the Army with the Manitoba Dragoons in the United Kingdom, Sicily, Italy, France, and Belgium during World War II. He received the 1939-1945 Star, France and Germany Star, Defence Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp and War Medal 1939-1945. Being a farmer was his joy in life. He had three children and ten grandchildren. Stewart passed away in 1993.
