LEST WE FORGET 185 JOHNSON, John WWI John was born in Leicester, England on February 26, 1882. He enlisted with the Fort Gray Horse in 1915. He was wounded and taken prisoner in March 1917 and was discharged in 1919. He returned to farming in the Livelong district, where he shipped livestock for the wheat pool and had a butcher shop. John passed away in August 1962. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Livelong Branch 192 for over fifty years. JOHNSTON, Charles Keith SPECIAL DUTY AREA Keith was born in Lumsden, Saskatchewan in 1933. He first served in the Reserves then served in the Canadian Army with the PPCLI Signal Corps and did one tour of Duty Peacekeeping in Germany. He was a 64-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion and was a Life Member of the Oak Lake, Manitoba Legion at the time of his death in 2014. JOHNSON, Roy Alexander WWII Roy was born on March 31, 1913, in Bulyea, Saskatchewan. He joined the Canadian Army in Indian Head in 1940 and was sent to Petawawa, ON, and then onto Aldershot, England, in 1941. He was trained as a gunner and sat on 25 pounder guns with 17th Field, which was made up of five Batteries. He went to Naples, Italy, in 1943, and took part in battles from Ansio, Monte Cassino, over to Marseilles, then to Lyons. They went through Belgium to Otterloo, Holland. The 17th Field took part in the liberation of Nymegen, Arnhem, Apeldoorn, Granigan, Winscoten on May 4, 1945. He remained in Holland until January 1946 and was discharged on February 22, 1946. He received six service medals: Defence Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, 1939-45 Battle of Britain, 1939-1945 Star, France and Germany Star and the Italy Star. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion for 41 years before he passed away on August 31, 1987.
