LEST WE FORGET 159 HAUTA, Everet Erven WWII Everet was born near Dinsmore and joined the 81st LAD-8th Field Regiment/5th Division of the Royal Canadian Artillery on October 2, 1941, serving in Italy, Belgium and Holland. He was discharged on February 21, 1946. He took mechanics in trade school in Calgary, Kingston, London, ON, and Fort Knox, USA. He went to England in 1943 and later to Italy. He was married to Taimi Linne for almost sixty years, a very good husband and father of four children. Everet is deceased. HEAD, Gerald Eugene WWII Gerald was born on September 3, 1907, in Greencastle, Missouri, USA. He joined the Army in 1942, signing up in Prince Albert with the First Patricia Infantry and took his training in Regina and Vernon, BC. He went overseas and was there for three years, serving in England, France and Spain. He married Margaret Otto and had three children. He came home in July 1945 and started farming. Gerald had a heart attack on June 9 and passed away on June 17, 1964 in Prince Albert, at the age of 56. Margaret passed away in 1994 at age 81. They are both buried in the Legion section of the Canwood North Cemetery. HAYWARD, Bernard W. WWII Bernard was born on March 2, 1912, in Raymore, Saskatchewan. He joined the Royal Air Force, 51 Squadron RAF, in 1936 and trained as a navigator and pilot of various types of airplanes. On April 4, 1940, Bernard was shot down over Denmark and was a Prisoner of War at Stalag Luft III where he twice tried to escape. In January 1945, German authorities evacuated POW camps and the Long March began. Bernard was liberated in April 1945 and repatriated to Canada. He received the 1939-1945 Star, the Air Crew Europe Star, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Overseas Bar, the War Medal 1939-1945, the Oak Leaf (Mentioned in Dispatches twice) and Her Majesty’s Armed Services Veterans Badge. Bernard died on November 3, 2007, in Dugald, Manitoba.
