LEST WE FORGET 147 HAMILTON, Robert William WWII Robert was born on May 2, 1920. He was raised in Grenvan, Saskatchewan and later came to live in Millet, Alberta. He joined the Army during World War II and served from 1940 to 1945 in the Aleutian Islands, England, and Holland. After his discharge, Robert moved to Port Alberni where he drove a school bus for several years. He passed away in 1977. HAMPSON, Thomas “Tom” WWI Tom was born at Loppington, Shropshire, England, on December 9, 1889, and migrated to Canada in 1911. He joined the Princess Patricia Canadian Light Infantry as a member of the Saskatchewan University Company on July 28, 1915. He was wounded on May 21, 1916, and stricken off strength from the PPCLI Regiment. He was then reassigned to the 7th Brigade Machine Gun Company on October 13, 1916. Tom was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal #22 for action on March 28, 1918. Returning to Canada, he farmed in the Birch Hills area and married Edith Jones on November 28, 1923. Their son, John, was born in 1924, and a daughter, Rosemary, was adopted in 1934. Tom passed away in 1968. HAMPSON, John R. WWII John was born in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan on October 3, 1924. He joined the Prince Albert Volunteer Service Army in 1942 and then transferred to the Royal Canadian Air Force, training in Regina. He went overseas in 1944 and was stationed in Yorkshire, England for the rest of the war with the European Occupation Forces and was discharged in 1946. John passed away in 2006.
