LEST WE FORGET 135 GOERTZEN, Frank S. WWII Frank was born in Herbert, Saskatchewan in 1920. He enlisted in the Army and served with the L Con Corps Sigs of the RCCS in Canada, France and the United Kingdom during World War II. He served from June 5, 1942 to February 5, 1946. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp, France and Germany Star, 1939-1945 Star and the Defence Medal. He married Lena Sawatsky. Frank passed away in 1994. GORIN, Henri Jean Joseph “Harry” WWII Harry was born in St. Brieux, Saskatchewan in 1915. As an enlisted member of the Canadian Army, he married Grace Mildred Berglund in the spring of 1942. He completed CETC training in Petawawa, Ontario. At the rank of sergeant, Harry was assigned to train recruits how to drive military vehicles. He was with #1 Platoon “A” Coy C.A. (B) T.C. #31 in Cornwall, Ontario and #22 Platoon No. 5 Coy A5 CETC in Petawawa, Ontario.World War II ended, so Harry’s overseas deployment was halted. Rather than continue a military career, Harry and Grace returned to Saskatchewan to be close to family. It was in Saskatchewan that they raised their eight children. Harry received a Service Medal, a Volunteer Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. In 1996, Harry passed away. He was always proud of his military service playing a part of protecting the peace and freedoms enjoyed today. GOHN, Leslie L. WWII Leslie was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on September 1, 1915. He enlisted in the Army in 1942 or 1943 and served as a mechanic in Aldershot, England, possibly with the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps. He returned to Canada in 1946. Leslie was a member of General Lipsett Branch 99 of The Royal Canadian Legion and he passed away on November 17, 1997.
