LEST WE FORGET 121 FAIRMAN, Alfred Clarence WWI Alfred Clarence Fairman was working as a farmer in the Ardath area when he enlisted in the 53rd Battalion in Prince Albert on April 19, 1915, at the age of 23. His parents were Alfred Nelson and Mina Ruth (Dunham) Fairman. He served in Canada for eleven months before being posted overseas in England for two months prior to entering combat in France where he served 32 months. During that time, like many other armed service personnel, he was twice diagnosed with what was then called ‘shell shock,’ today known as post-traumatic stress disorder. Alfred suffered a gunshot wound to his left knee on April 12, 1917. He received his official discharge in Saskatoon on May 6, 1919. He married Pearl Edith Chisholm of Calgary in 1934. They had no children. He served over 25 years with the civil service as a postal clerk in Vancouver and Pitt Meadows. Alfred Clarence Fairman died in the Nanaimo General Hospital on August 29, 1962 and is buried in the Nanaimo Cemetery. FINCARYK, Laddie Walter WWII Laddie was born in Sturgis, Saskatchewan on March 7, 1916. He enlisted in the Canadian Army on January 10, 1943 in Regina, SK under the National Resources Mobilization Act 1940. He served during World War II in Canada, the United Kingdom and Continental Europe with the Regina Rifles Regiment as a Rifleman. Laddie was discharged on March 6, 1946 in Regina to return to civilian life on demobilization. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion in Sturgis, SK. Laddie passed away on April 22, 1989. FENWICK, Noble Russell WWII Noble was born on September 23, 1918, in Tessier, Saskatchewan and the family moved to a farm near Souris, Manitoba when he was seven years old. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps at Portage la Prairie, Manitoba on January 20, 1942. He was sent overseas after basic training and aside from a three-month spell in a London hospital, spent the rest of the war as a driver for General Crerar. A week after D-Day, they arrived in France and continued on through to Belgium and Holland until the end of the war. In 1948, Noble married Ilene Dane with whom he had two sons. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Souris Branch 60 before he passed away on November 20, 1996, at the age of 78.
