He entered basic training in Port Arthur in 1942 and served in New Brunswick and British Columbia with the Lanark and Scottish RenfrewWinnipeg Light Infantry.Whenever Gale talked to the family about his military service, he seemed to stress the negative aspects and to downplay his part. He finished his service, discharged because of health problems, after seeing much of Canada. Gale greatly admired those who served overseas but seemed to feel that his was not a very important part of the war effort. Years later, when involved with DVA, he received his military records. Not long before Gale died in 2009, those records were checked and it was quite amazing to see the content and the excellent remarks about his work. When he heard what had been written and the comment “Good Soldier”, it seemed to change his way of thinking about the way that he had done his duty. DOCKERILL, John Peter “Jack” WWII Jack was born in Fenwood, Saskatchewan in 1921. He served in the Royal Canadian Air Force in Holland during World War II. Jack was killed in action and is buried in a Canadian Cemetery in Holland. The family homesteaded on SW-34-24-8-W2 approximately six miles north of Fenwood. The original home still stands.
