LEST WE FORGET 97 CAREY, Irene WWII Irene MacDonald Carey was born on the family farm near Ardath, Saskatchewan on May 28, 1915. Her parents were William and Ethel Carey. Irene served as a sergeant in the Canadian Women’s Army Corps (CWAC), mainly in Montreal. After the war, she worked with Massey Ferguson, designing and testing farm machinery. She married Walter Irvin Riekman on August 30, 1952. Irene lived in Toronto for forty years where she owned a beauty salon and worked as a supervisor at the Oakville Kmart store until her retirement. She moved to Saskatoon in 1985 after she and Walter retired. Irene passed away on February 15, 1992 and is buried in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Saskatoon. CARRAT, George Frederick “Fred” WWII George was born in Hughton, Saskatchewan, on October 19, 1919, moving with his family south of Forgan. In April 1940, Fred went to Saskatoon and joined the South Saskatchewan Regiment. The next five years he spent in Eastern Canada, England, Germany and Holland returning home in December 1945. CARR, Clarence Charles WWII Clarence Carr joined the Air Force in 1939 after taking a course in Aeronauticals at the Technical School in Saskatoon. He became an Air Frame Mechanic and was stationed all over Canada (in nearly every province). Clarence was posted to Calgary ahead of his sister Dorothy, so they shared many 48’s together. He was discharged in 1949. Clarence passed away in Aldergrove, British Columbia.
