LEST WE FORGET 93 CAMPBELL, Earl “Leslie” WWII Leslie was born in Birch Hills (Fisher District) around 1921, one of three boys born to Charles Forbes and Lillian (Barrs) Campbell and attended Fisher and Birch Hills schools. He enlisted with the Royal Canadian Air Force. He was killed on a flight in Alberta on November 27, 1946, at the age of 25, and is buried in the Birch Hills Cemetery. CAMPBELL, George A. WWI George was born in the Stanleyville District on June 13, 1891. He joined the 203rd and 52nd Battalions in 1916 and served in England and France. He married Marie Hamilton Knight on December 30, 1917. He was wounded at the Battle of Amiens and was awarded the Military Medal for Gallantry and Devotion to Duty in action. He was also awarded the DCM for outstanding conduct in the face of danger. He was discharged from duty on January 11, 1919 and returned to farming. In 1967, he was honoured with a plaque crediting him with Distinguished Service to Canada during the war, good citizenship and dedicated service to the travelling public. George passed away on December 4, 1972 and is buried in South Hill Cemetery where his wife Marie has also been laid to rest. They are survived by one daughter, June (Lyle) Short. CAMPBELL, Edwin Russell WWII Private Edwin Russell Campbell served overseas with the Lanark and Renfrew Scottish Regiment. He was killed in action on December 13, 1944, at the age of 25, and is buried at Villanova Canadian War Cemetery in Villanova, Italy.
