LEST WE FORGET 87 CALWELL, Lloyd F. PEACETIME Lloyd was born in Sovereign, Saskatchewan. He served in Egypt with the Peacekeepers, Lord Strathcona Horse (RC), 2nd Armoured Regiment, 56 Canadian REECE Squadron and was awarded the Canadian Peacekeeping Service Medal in 2001. CALWELL, Thomas John “Jack” WWI Jack was born on March 20, 1895, in Blake, Ontario, moving to Saskatchewan with his family in 1909. They settled in the Elrose area in 1913. In 1916, Jack joined the Armed Forces and served overseas with the 209th Battalion as a machine gunner. Part of his army training of veterinary care of horses as they were the main mode of transportation. After discharge, he was able to purchase SW27-25-15 through the Veterans’ Land Act, living there until he and his wife Gladys moved to Elrose. CALWELL, Robert John “Bob” WWII Robert Calwell enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy in 1939. Two of the corvettes he served on were the HMS Midland and the HMS Miltown. He served off the east coast. His rank in the Navy is believed to have been Petty Officer I. The Navy sent Bob to the University of Toronto shortly after he enlisted where he played hockey in the Maple Leaf Gardens with a Navy All-Star Team that included some of the Toronto Maple Leafs.
