LEST WE FORGET 85 BULMER, Ernest Charles “Ernie” WWII Ernie was born on June 22, 1926, in Outlook, Saskatchewan, the son of John (1892-1963) and Gertrude Daisy (Emery) (1887-1973). He joined the Military Reserve Force prior to moving to Victoria, BC with his parents and six siblings in 1943. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy in Esquimalt and saw action in World War II. Ernie married Mary Williams on April 28, 1951. They had four children: Paul, John, Debbie and Charles. After the war, he worked for Dominion Construction in Victoria, Calgary and Port Alberni. In 1977, the family settled in Okotoks, Alberta where Ernie started his own business, and served two terms on the town council. He enjoyed curling and golf. He retired to Kelowna in 1983 where he could golf to his heart’s content; he recorded four holes-in-one. Ernie passed away on August 12, 2016, in Kelowna at the age of 90. BURTON, Florence “Ruthie” WWII Florence was born on October 25, 1924, in Forgan, Saskatchewan. She joined the WACS taking her basic training in Ontario and was then posted to Regina, Saskatchewan. Florence passed away in Saskatoon in May 1977. BULMER, Ivy May Ivy May Bulmer was born in Outlook, Saskatchewan on May 6, 1929, the daughter of John and Daisy Bulmer. In Outlook, she was a member of the local skating club, as well as St. Mark’s Anglican Church. Ivy moved with her parents to Victoria, BC in 1943. She graduated from high school in 1947 and enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force. Ivy was stationed in Ontario where she served for several years before returning to British Columbia. Ivy married Kenneth V. Roberts and they had four children: Douglas (killed in a construction site accident, 1981), Chet, Lynn and Wendy. She was a long-time member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Victoria. Ivy passed away on May 13, 2012, in Victoria, BC.
