LEST WE FORGET 81 BROWN, Elsie Elizabeth WWII Elsie was born in July 1919 and raised in Vasey, Ontario. She completed her hairdressing course at Guelph, Ontario. She enlisted in the Canadian Women’s Army Corps and was stationed overseas in Appleseed, Holland working as a hairdresser. Elsie met Langford Brown of Forgan, Saskatchewan overseas and they married on December 4, 1948. Together they raised a family of four boys. She owned and operated the General Store in Forgan for many years and farmed with Langford on the family farm. Elsie was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Elrose Branch 206 until her passing in May 2010. BROWN, Melville “Mel” WWII Mel was born to Roy and Elizabeth Brown of Hughton, Saskatchewan in 1917. He was conscripted into the Canadian Army in 1942. He was a Private with the 49th Battalion of the Loyal Edmonton Regiment and fought with the 1st Canadian Regiment in Italy, Germany, Belgium and Holland during World War II. He was in Holland when he was wounded about a week before its Liberation. Mel passed away in 2002 in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. BROWN, Langford Cecil WWII Langford was born on March 8, 1918, in Forgan, Saskatchewan. He joined the Royal Canadian Army Corps in Vancouver, British Columbia in 1941, at the age of 23. His basic training was taken in Vernon, BC in October and November 1941. He was sent overseas to Italy, Belgium and Holland in 1942. He fought at the Major Battles at Panachine, Italy; Sicily Airfield, Campabasso and Moro River, Italy. He was RCASC Driver for 3rd General Hospital. He received the 1939-1945 Star, Italy Star, France and Germany Star, Defence Medal, 19391945 Service Medal with Bar, Defence Medal and the 1939-1945 Commonwealth Service Medal. Langford returned home due to shrapnel wounds in 1946 and took up farming on the family farm in Forgan. Langford was keenly interested in all sports as a player and a coach playing with the Stan Nelson Wiseton Team from 1938 until the war interrupted them and after the war until the team disbanded. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in North Battleford, Saskatchewan. He and Elsie raised a family of four boys and was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Elrose Branch 206 from 1946 until his passing, serving as President from 1961 to 1962 and was a Life Member from 1993 until his passing.
