LEST WE FORGET 71 BOLGER, Garnet WWII Garnet was born in Elrose, Saskatchewan to Joseph and Selena Bolger. Joseph bought the Meat Market in Elrose in 1922. In 1938, the family moved to five acres of land near Edmonton, Alberta and went into the cattle and chicken business. Garnet enlisted in World War II and upon his return to Canada took up residence in Edmonton where he married. He was employed by various companies as a meat cutter until his retirement. Garnet passed away in 1982 at the age of 67. BONE, John Lloyd WWII John was born on September 28, 1921 to John and Mary Katherine (Campbell) Bone. He was raised on the family farm near Rispath, Saskatchewan. The family later moved southeast of Elrose. John was an older brother of Matthew Bone. Lloyd joined in November 1942 as an airframe mechanic. He trained in Saskatoon; Brandon, Manitoba and St. Thomas, Ontario, then posted to Souris, Manitoba as a mechanic for fifteen months. Lloyd then went back to St. Thomas to train in the aircraft safety equipment trade.When completed, he was posted to Jericho Beach, Vancouver and then to Comox on Vancouver Island where he was engaged in parachute servicing and sometimes flying on airstrip at Cassidy for canister strop practice and glider pulling. John was honourably discharged in April 1946. He married Eileen Doughty on March 25, 1953 while serving as a missionary in India. They had three children: Phillip Campbell Bone born on January 12, 1953; Eunice Kathleen Bone born on September 3, 1955 and Ian Paul Bone, born on August 21, 1957. John passed away on September 29, 2012. BONE, Donald William WWII Donald was born on March 19, 1920 in Greenan, Saskatchewan to Matthew McTaggart and Clarissa Ruth (Fish) Bone. He grew up on the family farm and went to school at the Bisley School north of Greenan. Don was drafted on October 30, 1941, serving with the 9th Heavy Antiaircraft Battery, 27th Anti Aircraft Regiment in Prince Rupert, BC. Don volunteered for Active Service in July 1944, and after intensive infantry training in Nova Scotia, and Field Radio training in England, was attached to 2nd Battalion, Royal Winnipeg Rifles (Little Black Devils) in June 1945 in Utrecht, Holland. He was honourably discharged at #10 Manning Depot in Winnipeg in February 1946. Post war, he married Thelma Phyllis Arundell on October 17, 1946. They had two children: Douglas Philip Bone born on January 22, 1951 and Cathryne Adele (Wickwire) born on September 30, 1952. Don and Thelma lived in Greenan, farming as well as running the general store. Don officially retired after a stroke in 1989 but remained active on the farm until the fall of 2004 when he moved full-time to Elrose. Donald passed away on December 25, 2005 in the Elrose Senior’s Lodge.
