LEST WE FORGET 69 BLOMQUIST, Paul Oliver Hurley WWII Hurley was born in Outlook in 1914 and joined the British Columbia Dragoons and went overseas in 1941 serving in Africa, Sicily, France, Belgium and Holland and returned home in 1945. He drove a tank while serving in the Army. He married Ruth Peterson from Calgary and they had two children. Hurley passed away in 1967. BOERJAN, William “Bill” WWI Bill Boerjan, born to Natalie and Ben Boerjan in Kewanee, Illinois in 1896, moved with his family to Canada around 1904. He grew up helping his father on the farm at Elrose, Saskatchewan. He had met his future wife, Valerie Boucher, while working in the paper mill in International Falls, Minnesota and they were married there. Bill served in the Armed Forces in World War I in the Army of Occupation as a Sergeant in the Medical Corps. He was stationed overseas at the end of the war. He picked up the wounded and buried the dead. Upon his return from the war, he and Valerie moved to Elrose to farm with his father. BOERJAN, Viola Marguerite “Vi” WWII Vi was born in 1923, the youngest daughter of Bill and Valerie Boerjan of Elrose, Saskatchewan. She attended school in Elrose, then business college in Saskatoon. She served in the Armed Forces duringWorldWar II. She married Donald “Mac” McDonald right after the war ended and they lived in Swift Current for a while and then moved to Vancouver, British Columbia. Vi was a happy, well-loved, very easygoing person. She gave birth to three girls: Bonnie, Sandy, and Joanna. She developed breast cancer at a very young age, and it spread rapidly. Vi passed away in September 1962, leaving behind her husband Mac and three young daughters.
