LEST WE FORGET 65 BERNICK, Lloyd Adolf WWII Lloyd Adolf Bernick was born on March 22, 1920, son of Harry and Elinora Bernick who moved to Saskatchewan from Iowa in 1913 to homestead in the Hawarden area. He was a member of No. 9 Squadron of the Royal Canadian Air Force. Preparing for a night raid over Nuremburg on February 26, 1943, Sergeant Bernick’s Lancaster MK.III WS-T bomber took off from Waddington Airfield. That was the last anyone ever heard from the seven-man crew as the plane disappeared without a trace. Lloyd Bernick is commemorated at Runnymede, a memorial close to London, which honours service personnel who died with no known grave. BINNIE, James Angus WWI James was born in Canada in 1896 and joined the 46th Battalion on March 15, 1915 serving in France during World War I. He received a gun shot wound to the left knee at Vimy Ridge. BESSIE, Charles WWI Charles was born in Canada in 1896. He joined the 1st Depot Battalion on May 21, 1918 and served in Canada and England during World War I. He was discharged on June 15, 1919 and received the Victory Medal. Charles joined The Royal Canadian Legion Earl Grey Branch 137 on June 7, 1930.
