LEST WE FORGET 53 BALL, Robert Harold WWII Robert was born on a farm near Keystown, Saskatchewan in 1917. After completing high school in Silton, SK, Robert joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1940. He was then attached to the Royal Air Force and received training in England. His job as a radar mechanic was to build and modify radar stations in India, Burma, Ceylon, and England during World War II. At the age of 98, he wrote a book called The Road Burmain which he describes his years during the war and subsequent life as the City Engineer for the City of Regina. He received the following medals: Star, Burma Star, Defence of Great Britain, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, Medal for Service - countries of India, Ceylon, Great Britain, and a Citation from the British Air Ministry for good work during the Battle of Britain. He served for four years and 254 days in the Air Force. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Silton Branch 33. Robert passed away in 2017. BANCESCU, William WWII William was born in Flintoft, Saskatchewan on January 14, 1919. He enlisted in the Canadian Army in June 1941, at the age of 22. In November 1941, he was sent overseas and served during World War II as a gunner with the Royal Canadian Artillery in the United Kingdom, Italy, and Northwest Europe. On April 17, 1942, William was killed in action in Holland at the age of 26. He was awarded the following medals: 1939-1945 Star, Italy Star, France and Germany Star, Defence Medal, War Medal 1939-1945, and Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. William is buried in the Nijmegen Canadian Military Cemetery in Holland. BANCESCU, George WWII George was born in Flintoft, Saskatchewan on November 15, 1922. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in June 1941, at the age of eighteen. He trained in the prairie provinces from June 1941 to May 1942, then went to Eastern Canada for three months, before being sent overseas in August 1942. George was reported as missing in action, at the age of twenty, after his crew failed to return from an attack on Dortmund, Germany, on May 24, 1943. His body was never recovered.
