LEST WE FORGET 373 WING (HESS), Virginia Alma WWII Virginia was born in St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon in 1916. She enlisted in the Women’s Royal Canadian Naval Service on September 2, 1944 and spent from then until February 4, 1946 with HMCS Cornwallis in Nova Scotia as Galley Dietician – Officer in charge of Naval Galley supervising the large quantity of food ordering, preparation and serving, supervision of staff and responsibility of cost accounts and all galley routine. She was discharged on February 4, 1946, receiving her eighteen-month Service Award. Virginia was recalled from discharge on May 15, 1946 to HMCS Unicorn in Saskatoon as Rehabilitation Officer assisting service women in Saskatchewan and Alberta to successfully re-enter employment and civilian life. She joined The Royal Canadian Legion Elrose Branch 206 on June 30, 1947 at which time the dues were $3.75. She married Albert E. Wing, also a Navy Veteran, from the North Battleford area in 1951. Virginia and Bert and their family resided in the Saskatoon area until her passing in March 2004. WUSSOW, F. Woodrow “Chuck” WWII Chuck was born in Churchbridge, Saskatchewan on July 4, 1920. He enlisted in the Army in January 1942 and served during World War II with the 92nd Battery, 3rd Field Artillery Regiment, 1st Division at Ortona, Hitler Line, Gustav Line and Monte Cassino. He served in Canada, the United Kingdom, Central Mediterranean, Sicily, Italy and Continental Europe until his discharge in November 1945. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, Italy Star, Defence Medal, France and Germany Star, 1939-1945 Star and War Medal 1939-1945. He returned to Churchbridge and in 1946 married Phyllis Bergen, a local girl. They farmed for many years and had a family of three daughters. Chuck passed away on July 8, 2015. WRIGHT, Henry WWI Corporal Henry Wright served overseas with C Squadron, 1st Battalion Canadian Mounted Rifles during World War I. He was killed in action at the age of 25 on October 8, 1916 at the Battle of the Somme. He received the 19141915 Star and British War and Victory Medal. Henry is buried in Albert France Communal Cemetery.
