LEST WE FORGET 369 WESTMAN, Robert Morris “Bob” WWII Robert Morris Westman was born in Regina on September 21, 1915. His parents were Philip and Myrtle Westman. He attended school in Kenaston and completed his schooling in Hawarden. He enlisted with the Royal Canadian Air Force on May 8, 1941 in Vancouver, British Columbia, and trained at Moose Jaw, Saskatoon and Dauphin. Bob served with the Royal Canadian Air Force attached to No. 458 Squadron as a Warrant Officer 2nd Class during the World War II. On April 29, 1943, Robert Morris Westman died following air operations at Luqa, Malta when his Wellington took off on a shipping patrol but never returned. Westman is commemorated at Agira Canadian War Cemetery, Italy. Six of his brothers and two step-brothers also served in the Canadian Armed Forces: Cornelius, Walden, William, James, George, Jack, Ernest Davies and George Davies. Mount Westman in Central Yukon is named in his honour. He was survived by his wife Doris of Loreburn. WIGGINS, Harold WWII Harold was born in Rosetown, Saskatchewan and came as a child to live on the farm south of Wartime. In 1941, Harold and his wife, Nancy (Gwen), moved to Trail, British Columbia where he worked for C.M. & S. until spring. He then went to Vancouver and was employed at South Burrard Shipyard until joining the Royal Canadian Navy. Harold received his discharge in 1946 and returned to farm in the Wartime District, where he was an active member of The Royal Canadian Legion Elrose Branch 206. Harold and Gwen retired in Surrey, British Columbia in 1974. Harold passed away in 1986. WIGGINS, Arthur Allan WWII Arthur was born on October 23, 1919, the son of Daisy and Victor Wiggins, pioneer residents of the Wartime District. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in July 1940 in Toronto, Ontario. He was posted to St. Thomas, Ontario. In April 1941, he was posted to Winnipeg #3 Wireless School. In September 1942, he remustered to Aircrew ITS in Regina, Saskatchewan. In January 1943, he was posted to EFTS Fort William and in April 1943, was posted to #11 SFTS in Yorkton, Saskatchewan. In July 1943, he graduated with wings and was posted to #2 Flying Instructor School in Pearce, Alberta and in September 1943, was posted to #18 SFTS Gimli as Flying Instructor. Arthur passed away on March 24, 2014.
