LEST WE FORGET 367 WAUGH, Victor Eston WWI Victor was born in Hope Bay, Bruce County, Ontario on October 2, 1893. The Waugh family moved from Ontario in the early 1900’s to Summerberry, Saskatchewan. At the age of 22, he joined the Canadian Army on December 15, 1915 and after training in Alberta was sent overseas. He was determined to be fit to be assigned overseas and received his attestation papers for Canadian Overseas Expeditionary Force. His unit was the Canadian Infantry (Alberta Regiment), Division 31st Battalion. He fought in the Battle of Vimy Ridge in France during World War I. He was killed in action on May 3, 1917 at Vimy, Pas-de-Calais, Nord de Calais, France. WELLS, Robert Sladden WWII Robert was born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan in 1912. He enlisted in the Army in the fall of 1939. He was commissioned as Lieutenant and went overseas in 1940. Major R. S. Wells served in France with the South Saskatchewan Regiment during World War II. He was wounded in Dieppe in August 1942 and was killed in action in France on July 20, 1944. He is buried at Bretteville-surLaize Canadian War Cemetery. Robert left behind his wife, Gwen, and two daughters, Geraldine and Beverley. WELLS, John Hunter WWI John was born in Manitoba in October 1887. He enlisted with the 96th Battalion CEF in Saskatoon on March 6, 1916. He served in France during World War I and was discharged on demobilization on February 26, 1919 in Calgary, Alberta at the rank of Sergeant. He received the George V Medal “for distinguished conduct in the field” and the Georgius V Brittomin; ET IND; IMP 1914-1918. John passed away in 1959.
