LEST WE FORGET 311 POITRAS, Norman Simion WWII Norman Simion Poitras was born in Lorlie, Saskatchewan on August 18, 1913. As a young man, he farmed with his father on a mixed farm, worked for three years on a dairy farm and then tried his hand at mining when World War II broke out. He enlisted in the Army on July 3, 1942, became a fully trained Infantry soldier, employed as a Bren gunner in the United Kingdom, Sicily and Italy. He served with the Loyal Edmonton Regiment. He was wounded three times in his overseas service of 28 months from a total of 38 and a half months in the Army. His medals and awards include the 1939-1945 Star, Italy Star, Defence Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp and the War Medal 1939-1945. Norman passed away in February 1991. POPE, Robert C. “Bob” WWII Robert was born in Arbroath, Scotland on May 13, 1913. He joined the Armed Forces in 1939 to serve during World War II and was sent to England that same year. He returned to Canada in June 1945. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Elrose Branch 206. Bob passed away in April 1978. POPE, Christine WWII Christine was born in Durham, England on November 11, 1920. She served in England with the Women’s Royal Air Force during World War II. She was a member of the Auxiliary to The Royal Canadian Legion Elrose Branch 206. Christine passed away in 2002.
