LEST WE FORGET 233 HUDON, Ray G. PEACETIME Ray was born on March 20, 1936, in Armley, Saskatchewan. His military career began when he enlisted on October 28, 1959. He served in Canada as a Leading Aircraftman until he left the service on October 27, 1964. Ray married and is a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Nutana Branch 362. HYLAND, Gerald Charles WWII Gerald Charles Hyland was born on May 27, 1920, in Ardath, Saskatchewan, the son of Alfred John and Ellen Susie (Cratchley) Hyland who farmed in the Ardath district. Gerald lived on the family farm until he joined the army (RCOC) in 1941. He served in Britain, France, Holland and Germany, and received his discharge in 1946. He returned to the family farm where he worked until 1949, the year he married Lillian Agnes Mashford (whose first husband Bill Mashford had been killed in action in 1945). Gerald and Lillian moved to Saskatoon in 1949 where he was employed for 32 years with Saskatoon Transit System, retiring in 1983. The couple raised two children: Glen and Elaine. Those who knew him remembered his kindness and willingness to help others. Gerald Hyland passed away in Saskatoon on December 11, 1985 and is buried at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery. HUNTER, Hazel WWII Hazel Hunter, born in 1919, was the daughter of Charlie and Isabel Smith of Elrose, Saskatchewan. She enlisted in the Canadian Women’s Army Corps in 1941 and served in the Medical Corps until the end of the war in 1945.
