LEST WE FORGET 231 HORRICKS, Stanley Charles WWII Stanley was born on June 3, 1922, in Shellbrook, Saskatchewan. In 1942, he joined the Canadian Army (Active) serving in Canada, the United Kingdom, Continental Europe, and the Mediterranean Area. Other places he served at were Azore Islands, England, Scotland, Ireland, the English Channel, North Africa, Bay of Biscay, Rock of Gibraltar, Sicily, Italy, Coast of Norway, Alaska, Aleutian Islands, Pacific, San Francisco, Panama Canal, Balboa, Central America, Caribbean Sea, Gulf of Mexico, Atlantic, South and North Bermuda. In March 1946, he returned and was awarded the 1939-1945 Star, Italy Star, France and Germany Star, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Shellbrook Branch 111 for more than thirty years. Stanley passed away on December 14, 1980. HUBLER, Frank Frank Hubler, son of Anna and Anton Hubler, immigrated with his family in 1929 at the age of four. They travelled on a ship of the Red Star Line from Antwerp, Belgium. Frank farmed on Highway #4 south of Elrose after he was discharged from the Army. He married Laurette Chaille of Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan. After selling the farm to Paul Tietz, they moved out to the West Coast. Frank was a brother to Mrs. Betty Dinsmore of Elrose. HOWELL, Lorne Martin WWI Private Lorne Martin Howell served overseas with the 8th Battalion, part of the 2nd Infantry Brigade of the 1st Canadian Division. He was killed in action on September 29, 1918. He was struck in the head by an enemy machine gun bullet and killed instantly during the advance on the Cambrai, France front in the Bourlon Wood Operations. He was nineteen years old. Lorne is buried in the Haynecourt British Cemetery in Cambrai, France.
