LEST WE FORGET 223 HESSDORFER, Leo John WWII Leo was born in Wakaw, Saskatchewan on July 14,1923. He served with the 8th RECCE as a Sergeant serving in Germany, Holland, Belgium, France and Canada during World War II. He was awarded the military medal for gallantry and distinguished conduct during the Bielen Battle. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Wakaw Branch 195 for over twenty years. Leo passed away in Cudworth, SK, on May 23, 2000. HILL, James John “Jim” WWII Jim was born on September 14, 1916, in Wynyard, Saskatchewan. His father, James Barrow Hill, a CPR repairman who came to Canada in 1906, and his mother, Ethel Elizabeth (Yates), later transferred to Outlook, Saskatchewan. Jim was a Scout Master in Outlook for several years. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force (unfortunately details of his service cannot be located). Jim married Annabel Gertrude Ferry, a nurse, and they had two sons: Geoffrey A. and J. Garth. He worked in sales and marketing for a number of years before moving to Calgary in 1960, and later retired to Tsawwassen, BC, in 1978. He was a member of the Langley Branch of The Royal Canadian Legion. Jim passed away on November 12, 1987 and is buried in the Victory Memorial Park Cemetery, Surrey, BC. HIGHLAND, Alexander Purcell WWI Alexander was born in London, England, and enlisted with the 195th Battalion in March 1916, serving in France and Belgium. He was discharged in April 1919, and received the Military Medal, the Victory Medal and Great War Medal and the King & Queens S A. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Earl Grey Branch 137.
