LEST WE FORGET 215 HARBICHT, Melvin Reubin WWII Melvin Harbicht was enrolled under the National Resources Mobilization Act of 1940 with the Canadian Army in Regina, Saskatchewan on March 20, 1941. He served in Canada, the United Kingdom, and Continental Europe and was discharged from the service under Routine Order 1029 5C1 by reason of to return to civil life (on demobilization) on March 8, 1946. Mel returned to the farm north of Hughton, Saskatchewan. HARDY, Lorraine Lorraine Hardy, daughter of Alex and Helen Hardy, joined the Canadian Army after completing high school. When she was discharged, she met and married Clarence Zdunich, a farmer from the Kenaston, Saskatchewan area. They raised two boys, Kevin, and Trevor, and were blessed with grandchildren. Lorraine resided in Naskup, British Columbia and kept herself busy volunteering with The Royal Canadian Legion. HARDY, Joseph Alexander “Alex” WWII Alex Hardy came to Elrose in the late 1930’s from the homestead at Makwa, Saskatchewan. He married Helen Smith of Dinsmore, Saskatchewan on September 20, 1940 and in 1941 the family relocated back to Makwa. Alex joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1943 and was stationed at the Cornwallis Base in Halifax, Nova Scotia as leading stoker mechanic. He also spent additional time in Digby and St. John’s Naval Base. In 1945, after discharge from the services, he moved his family back to Elrose. He worked as a mechanic at Lacadena and Sanctuary before purchasing farmland at Mondou. Before he got the farm established, he met his untimely death in an automobile accident. In September 1955, Helen and family moved to Elrose where they resided for almost eight years.
