LEST WE FORGET 205 GUSTAFSON, Emil Ragnar WWII Emil was born on May 25, 1901, in Traverse County, Minnesota. He moved to Goodwater, Saskatchewan with his father and brothers in 1905, and purchased a homestead. He attended Delight School and helped his father with the farming.When he grew up, he purchased land and started farming.When World War II broke out, Emil enlisted with the Air Force and took his basic training in Trenton, ON as an Airplane Mechanic. After training he was transferred to Mossbank, where he became part of the ground crew there. After being discharged from the Air Force, he returned to Goodwater and with his brother, Victor, started a machine repair shop in the village. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Weyburn Branch 47. Emil passed away on July 2, 1976. GUSTAFSON, Herman Edward WWI Herman was born on June 13, 1897, in Traverse County, Minnesota. He moved with his father and brothers to Goodwater, Saskatchewan, in 1905, where they purchased a homestead. He attended Delight School, which was a six-mile walk everyday. After getting his grade six, he stayed home to help his father on the farm. In May 1918, he decided to enlist in the Canadian Army. He was immediately sent overseas and was stationed at Rapon, York, England. After the war ended, he was part of the peacekeeping regiment until June 24, 1919, when he was discharged and returned home to continue farming in the Goodwater area. He married and they raised two daughters and one son. Herman passed away on March 19, 1976. GUSTAFSON, Gordon I. WWII Gordon Gustafson was born in 1919 and raised on the family farm at Hughton, Saskatchewan. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1941. His postings included Ontario, Port Hardy and Leeming, England where he met and married Joyce James. Returning from overseas in 1945, Gordon and Joyce returned to the family farm until 1973, when they retired to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Gordon passed away in 2001.
