LEST WE FORGET 175 FRANCESCONE, Nicholas “Nick” WWII Nick was born in Regina, Saskatchewan in 1924. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1943 and was stationed at RCAF Clinton, Ontario at war’s end serving in Canada. He was awarded the War Medal 1935-1945 and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. Nick passed away in 2015 in the United States of America. FRANCESCONE, Patrick Anthony “Tony” WWII Patrick Anthony was born on June 12, 1926 at Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. In 1943, he was living in Trail, British Columbia and with a good friend they decided to join the Navy. After doing seaman’s training from Esquimalt, Tony was too young to join the RCN therefore he assigned to the Merchant Navy Ship S.S. Richmond Park. This ship was an armed vessel and among other regular duties he was assigned to port side machine gun. Tony made several trips through the Panama Canal and served in both the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. Tony was in England when the war ended in Europe. He was awarded the 1939-1945 Star, Atlantic Star, Pacific Star, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp, and War Medal 1939-1945. Patrick passed away on April 19, 2019. FRANCESCONE, Orvell Stefan “Orv” SPECIAL DUTY AREA Orv was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan in 1940. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force at the age of seventeen and after basic and trades training, he was transferred to Greenwood, Nova Scotia to 404 Squadron. In 1961, he was transferred to 4(F) Wing Germany. Other tours were to Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan; Trenton, Ontario and St. Louis, Missouri, USA, as part of the maintenance transition team when Canada purchased the CF18. A tour in NDHQ Ottawa ended 33 years of military service. Awarded the CD2, Queen’s Jubilee, Queen’s Golden and Special Services Medal (SSM). He is a five-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion.
