LEST WE FORGET 145 ELLIS, Gordon William WWII Gordon was born in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan in 1921. He joined the New Westminster Regiment in 1939, trained at Dundurn, and was posted in Africa for six months and then sent to England for special intelligence training, serving in the division of that regiment. From there, he went to Italy and resided in a camp that also housed the Gurkhas who did most of their work behind enemy lines at night. His unit was sent back to Canada on furlough in 1945. His only wartime injury was in England when his motorcycle hit some bomb debris and he was thrown off and injured his leg. Gordon passed away in 1973. ELLIS, Velma WWII Velma Ellis was born in 1915 to Roy and Elizabeth Brown of Hughton, Saskatchewan. She joined the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Nursing Sister in February 1942. During her service, she was stationed in Yorkton, Saskatchewan and in the Maritime Provinces. She spent her last year of service in Gander, Newfoundland before it was a province of Canada. Velma was discharged from the Forces in December 1945. ELLIS, John W. WWII Sgt. John W. Ellis enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in the spring of 1941. He made the ultimate sacrifice for his Country. John’s casualty date is listed as August 7, 1944, having just turned twenty years of age in July of that same year.
