LEST WE FORGET 127 DIEHL, William Hubert “Bill” WWII Bill was born in Aldina, Saskatchewan on May 21, 1915. He enlisted with the Army Service Corp in 1940 in Saskatoon, SK, training in Canada as a heavy duty mechanic and serving in England, Holland, France and Germany. He had many service medals and was discharged in 1945. After returning to his home in Marcelin, SK, he continued farming. He did a lot of hunting and trapping. Bill was a dedicated member of The Royal Canadian Legion Leask Branch 79 before he passed away on June 15, 2004. He is laid to rest in the Marcelin Cemetery. DLOUHY, Frank Frederick WWII Frank was born in Esterhazy, Saskatchewan in 1920. He enlisted in the 110th Field Regiment on June 12, 1941 serving in Canada, Britain, Central Mediterranean area, Germany, Italy and Holland. He was wounded in Italy with burns to both arms, face and neck, being hospitalized for some time. He received the 1939-1945 Star, the Italy Star, the France and Germany Star, the Defence Medal, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, the War Medal 1939-1945 and a medal from Holland, a Thank You Canada Medal, and a Legion Medal Past Officer. He received an honourable discharge upon retirement. He was married in 1946 and had a son and daughter, and six grandchildren. Frank passed away in 2005. DIX, Walter BOERWAR Walter was born in Somersetshire, England on July 29, 1878. He was a member of the British Forces in the Boer War and later moved to the USA where he married Edith Kelso and then moved to Canada in 1913 in the Birch Hills area. They had no children of their own, but they adopted a little boy called Jimmy, who later served in World War II. Walter passed away in 1967.
