LEST WE FORGET 119 DAHL, Percy WWII Percy was one of ten children born to Alex and Mary (Hallet) Dahl and went to school in Winton. He enlisted in the Navy serving on the High Seas. He came back to Canada after the war and married Ruth Hawksworth of Vancouver, BC. They had four children. He worked as an electrician until his death in 1978. DAHLBY, Edwin B. WWII Edwin B. Dahlby was born on December 7, 1917 in the Outlook-Broderick area. His parents, Oscar Bernhard and Sarah Alberta (Johnston) Dahlby, arrived in the Glenside area in 1905. Their first son died in the Cholera epidemic that swept Saskatchewan at that time. Their other children were named Beth and Harold. Oscar, being a musician, was in demand at concerts and other community events. Oscar and his wife Sarah farmed for several years; he also worked in Rollefson’s Store and the local flour mill. The family moved to Bodmin, Saskatchewan in 1928, but there is no record of Edwin moving with them. In 1941, a year after his mother Sarah died, Edwin enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy Volunteer Reserve. During the war, he was a Petty Officer. Following the war, Edwin remained in British Columbia where he worked as an engineer. He married Audrey Egeland and they had two children, Collene and Raymond. Edwin Dahlby was a member of theWest Vancouver Branch of The Royal Canadian Legion. He passed away at the age of 91 on January 18, 2009 in Vancouver. DAHL, William Ernest “Sonny” WWII William was born in Fenton in 1912, one of ten children of Alex and Mary (Hallet) Dahl. He attended school at Winton and Iranistan and enlisted in the Army. He was killed in action on December 23, 1943 and is buried at Moro River, Canadian War Cemetery, Ortona, Chieti, Italy.
