LEST WE FORGET 101 CHIPPERFIELD, Trevalyn “Harry” WWI Private Trevalyn Chipperfield served overseas with the 102nd Battalion, North British Columbians. He was killed in action on April 9, 1917, at the Battle of Vimy Ridge, France, at the age of 33. There is no known grave. CLARKE, Alfred J. “Alf” WWI Alf was born in England on October 9, 1889. He came to Canada in 1910 homesteading south of Wartime, Saskatchewan. He served overseas from 1916 to 1918 and saw action at Vimy Ridge. On returning home, he farmed for a time three miles west and one mile south of Wartime. When he retired from farming, he moved his house into the town of Wartime and in 1965 moved it into Elrose, Saskatchewan. When no longer able to look after himself, he lived for a time in the Golden Years Lodge in Elrose, later going to Palliser Hospital in Swift Current, Saskatchewan where he passed away on December 31, 1974. His final resting place is in the Soldier’s Plot in the Elrose Cemetery. CHRISTENSEN, Harold Henry WWII Harold was born in Pederstop, Lolland, Denmark, in 1904. He was a Corporal in the Royal Canadian Air Force from 1941 to 1946, stationed in Moncton, NB, where he started out on guard duty. He then transferred to motor vehicles and took several General Motors Training Programs. He was transferred to ambulance driver after receiving a broken ear drum. His assignment was picking up deceased pilot trainees. While in Moncton, he met and married Vera, and they had one son. They returned to Canwood, SK, where he farmed and had two more sons and one daughter. His last fifteen years were spent in Saskatoon, SK, where he passed away in 1985. He is buried at the Veterans Cemetery in Saskatoon with full honours. At his request, the coffin was decorated with the Red Ensign Flag and the flag was presented to his oldest son.
