LEST WE FORGET 77 CAYFORD, Max Harry WWII Max was born in Marsden, Saskatchewan, in 1908, the son of Howard Harry Cayford and Alice Carrie Cayford of Neilburg. Lance Corporal Max Cayford of the Royal Canadian Engineers was killed in action in Belgium on September 14, 1944. While repairing a bridge, which had been damaged by the enemy, he was hit by a sniper and died. This was at the start of the liberation of Belgium and the Netherlands and the advance into Germany in September 1944 to May 1945. Max is buried at Adegem Canadian War Cemetery in East Flanders, Belgium. CHAPMAN, George F. WWII George was born on November 30, 1923 in Estevan, Saskatchewan. He enlisted with the RCAF in December 1942 and was posted to No. 1 Manning Depot in Toronto in 1943. This is where he completed a course in Radio Telephone Operation at No. 1 Wireless School in Montreal. He attained the rank of Leading Aircraftsman. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and the War Medal 1939-1945 for his service. He was very active in The Royal Canadian Legion, first at Estevan Branch 60, and later at Branch 306 where he served as President, Secretary and Deputy Zone Commander. George passed away in December 1985. CHANT, Roderick “Rod” WWII Rod was born on July 19, 1921 to Dr. and Mrs. R. H. Chant in Foam Lake, Saskatchewan. He served during World War II. Retired since 1985, Rod had time to enjoy some travel, curling, golfing and volunteering. Rod passed away on November 12, 2010 at age 89.
