LEST WE FORGET 75 BURGE, James Winthrop “Jim” WWI Jim was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on August 6, 1896. He joined the 230th Forestry Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force in Dauphin, Manitoba, on January 22, 1914, and served in England and France. He was later awarded the 1914-1915 Star, the British War Medal, and the Army Class “A”War Service Badge. He was honourably released on June 7, 1916. Jim bought soldier settlement land north of Broadview, SK, married Alva Hayhurst, and they had a family of three daughters and one son. Jim passed away on July 7, 1988. CARSON, Carl Evans WWII Carl was born in North Battleford, Saskatchewan, on March 15, 1923. He enlisted in the Army and served with the Loyal Edmonton Regiment during World War II in Canada, Italy and in Europe. Sergeant Carl Carson, along with two comrades, captured three or four prisoners in one skirmish and sixteen in another battle. Carl is a 58-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 171 in Clive, AB and Branch 79 in Lacombe, AB. BURMEISTER, Henry Christian WWII Henry was born in Skabick Jutland, Denmark, in 1902. He enlisted with the O.C. #43 Provost Company in the Canadian Provost Corps on October 2, 1941 and served in Canada. Henry was discharged on August 30, 1946 and received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. He belonged to the Earl Grey Legion Branch for 42 years, being an active member for 38 of those years. In 1972, Henry was given a Life Membership. He passed away on September 4, 1988.
