LEST WE FORGET 73 BRUCE, Rupert Milton WWII Rupert was born in the Sturgeon Valley District in Saskatchewan on November 3, 1918 and attended Brant School. After that, he worked as a farm hand until he joined the Army on March 16, 1940, taking his basic training in Canada then going overseas to England, Sicily, Italy, France and Holland. He received the Italy Star, France and Germany, Holland Medal, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and two Defence Medals. He returned home five years to the day that he left for overseas and was discharged on July 19, 1946. Rupert married Mary Ernst of Sturgeon Valley on June 16, 1950 and they raised a family of eight children. He received the half section of land in the Deer Ridge District for farming. He passed away at his home from a heart attack on September 5, 1989. BURANT, Andrew August RESERVES Andrew was born in Othon, Saskatchewan, on December 24, 1938, the youngest of ten children. The family moved to Yorkton, SK, when he was four years old. He went to Simpson School from grade one through grade eight, then attended Yorkton Collegiate Institute. He played basketball and was a member of the Air Cadets and belonged to the 53rd Field Regiment Reserve Army until 1961. He worked for Eaton’s in Yorkton for three years. He moved to Regina and joined the Regina City Police on June 5, 1961, and he retired on December 25, 1988. He enjoyed welding, photography, building flowerpots and chairs and his great passion of gardening. Andrew and his wife, Eleanor, were married for sixty 60 years before he passed away on February 25, 2018 at age 79. BULMER, Peter Emery WWII & KOREANWAR Peter was born in Outlook, Saskatchewan, on April 22, 1924 to John and Gertrude Bulmer. He grew up in Outlook, where he participated in the local Scout Troop. Peter left Outlook at age 17 to join the Royal Canadian Navy where he saw action on various vessels as an Able Seaman during World War II. He also served three tours on HMCS Sioux in Korean waters between 1951-1953. He had served at CFB Esquimalt for thirteen years when he was tragically killed in an automobile accident on May 13, 1954. Peter and his wife, Edith May, had five children: Fred, Donald, Margaret, Joan and Judy.
