LEST WE FORGET 65 BESSEL, Leo Norman WWII Leo was born in Langenburg, Saskatchewan, on March 10, 1922. He enlisted on September 9, 1942, with the 10th A. A. (General) and was released on April 4, 1943. After the war, Norman returned to Langenburg and farmed his father’s homestead until 1978. He married Leah in 1944 and they had one son. They retired to Langenburg, where he built a new home in 1978. Leo passed away in 2006. BINKLEY, Doug WWII Doug was born in April 1923. After graduating in 1941, he joined the Air Force. He received his wings in 1942 and was posted overseas and flew with #6 RCAF Bomber Command until near the end of the war. He went back to Canada and graduated from the College of Pharmacy in 1950. The horrors of the war were with him his entire life. Doug passed away on March 9, 2009. BETSKAL, Michael WWII Michael was born in Hafford, Saskatchewan, on November 11, 1918. He enlisted with the Canadian Army on July 24, 1941, and was discharged on March 9, 1946, after serving in Canada and the UK. He received the 1939-1945 Star, the Italy Star, the France and Germany Star, the Defence Medal, and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp. He farmed in the Hafford area and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Michael passed away on May 25, 1991.
