LEST WE FORGET 325 ROLLINGS, Basil Robert WWII Basil joined the Canadian Army in November 1940 and trained in communications. He served overseas in England, France, Germany and Holland. Basil received the following medals: the 1939-1945 Star and Clasp, the France and Germany Star, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, the Defence Medal and the War Medal 1939-1945. Basil was on the first wave at the Beaches of Normandy. On December 8, 1945 Basil married Vera May King from London, England. After discharge they returned to Canada and made their home in Yorkton. Basil passed away on June 25, 1994. ROSE, John Robert WWII John was born in 1919 in Leslie, Saskatchewan. He enlisted with the Army in 1940 in Regina. He trained in Manitoba and was deployed to England.While in England, he tested positive for tuberculosis and returned to Saskatchewan. He was tested throughout the rest of his life and never had another positive test. He served in the Army in Canada until January 1944 when he returned home. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Leslie Branch 172 for 32 years. John passed away in 1976. ROMANOSKI, Joseph Frederick “Joe” WWII Joseph was born at Valeport, Saskatchewan on February 26, 1919, son of Frederick and Julia Romanoski. The family later moved to Lumsden, SK. He joined the Canadian Air Force in 1940 and served until the end of World War II in 1945. His last posting was at Mossbank, SK, with the rank of Flight Sergeant. Joe married Edna McNiece on October 16, 1939 and they had three children. They moved to Outlook, SK, in 1947 to start the Outlook Jewelry Store. Joe served as President of The Royal Canadian Legion Outlook Branch 262 in 1961-1962. During the late 1960’s Joe and Edna moved to northern Saskatchewan and ran the store at Murray Point in Emma Lake. Joe passed away on August 13, 1971 at Emma Lake, SK.
