LEST WE FORGET 323 RIDDELL, James Bodie WWI Lance Corporal James Bodie Riddell was born to John and Jessie Riddell of Rhynie, Scotland, on February 26, 1891. A tall man at 6 foot 6 inches, he was farming when he enlisted in Saskatoon on August 3, 1915. He served with the 46th Battalion Canadian Infantry. James arrived in France on August 19, 1916 and was killed in action on October 25, 1916 at Regina Trench on the Somme Battlefield near Thiepval. He is commemorated at the Vimy Memorial. His brother, George Alexander Riddell, of Toronto was killed at Vimy Rimy and is buried nearby at Nine Elms Military Cemetery. ROCKEY, Arthur John WWII Arthur was born on September 26, 1916 in Lynthorpe, Saskatchewan. He volunteered for service on August 14, 1942 in Regina. He served in the United Kingdom, Belgium, France, Holland and in occupied Germany with the 73rd Battery, 5th Field Regiment until August 7, 1944 when the 5th Field broke up and the 6th Field took over. He served with the South Saskatchewan Regiment until the war’s end. He was discharged from active service on January 4, 1946. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Glentworth Branch for 47 years. Arthur passed away on July 9, 1995. ROCHON, Dean PEACETIME Dean was born in Hamilton, Ontario, in 1967. He joined the Army with the Lord Strathcona’s Horse Regiment. He served in Bosnia (UNPROFOR). Dean is a six-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 358 in Young. He received Chief of the Defence Staff commendation for calmly assisting in giving first aid and preparing the observers for evacuation when enroute in Bosnia.
