LEST WE FORGET 293 PATTERSON, Robert Andrew WWII Robert was born on December 30, 1921 in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in May 1941 and received his wings at Claresholm in February 1942. He went to England in March 1942. On the night of November 22, 1942, he was practicing solo night flying when his plane was involved in a midair collision with a spitfire craft, both pilots were killed. The crash site was two miles north of Lissett Airfield, near Barmston East Yorkshire, England. Robert was buried in St. Mary’s Churchyard, Brandesburton, Yorkshire, England, on November 26, 1946. PEACHY, Clarence WWI Clarence was born in Collingwood, Ontario, on June 17, 1887, to Daniel and Kathleen Peachy. The family moved to farm in the Bratton area in 1915. Shortly after, the oldest son Clarence enlisted in Moose Jaw on July 28, 1915 at age eighteen with the 3rd Canadian Pioneers, Canadian Expeditionary Force. He saw action in France with the 46th Battalion for eleven months beginning on March 9, 1916. He suffered gunshot wounds to his right leg during action at Ypres on April 22, 1916 and later mustard gas in November 1917. During convalescence in hospital at Monks Horton, Kent, he developed bronchitis and pneumonia and was invalided back to Canada on September 24, 1918 where he was discharged in Regina on January 17, 1919. He joined the RNWMP shortly after. He served only briefly, and died in March 1919 at age 22. PAYNE, Raymond “Kirk” WWII Kirk was born on September 14, 1924 in Neville, Saskatchewan. He enlisted with the Royal Canadian Navy and served aboard the HMCS Lachute and the HMS King George V. He received the 1939-1945 Star, the Atlantic Star, the Africa Star, the Italy Star, the Defence Medal, and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. He also received the WWII Artic Campaign Medal, which was presented many years after the war by the Russian Ambassador in Toronto. Kirk passed away in 1999.
