LEST WE FORGET 289 OWEN (SANDOR), Irene Emma WWII Irene was born on September 12, 1920 in Saskatchewan. She was the oldest girl in a family of nine. Irene was in the Canadian Women’s Army Corps in Regina during World War II. After the war was over, she took a secretarial course and moved to eastern Canada, where she met and married George Owen. Irene passed away on October 4, 2000 and is buried in the Veteran section of Riverside Graveyard. PAGE, William WWII William was born in 1921 in Abernethy, Saskatchewan. He enlisted in the Canadian Army in 1941 and arrived overseas in England in August 1942. He served on Active Service with 1st Canadian Army, 4th Division RCEME. William was wounded in 1943. After his recovery, he was reassigned to the 3rd Division. In June 1944, he arrived in the European Theatre. He took part in the liberation of Holland. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, the 1939-1945 Star, the France and Germany Star, the Defence Medal, and the War Medal 1939-1945. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion. William passed away in 1989. PAGE, Frederick Arthur WWII Frederick was born in 1924 in Abernethy, Saskatchewan. He served on Active Service with the Royal Canadian Navy aboard the HMCS Queen Regina from 1943 until 1945. He received the War Medal 1939-1945 and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. He was a Lifelong member of The Royal Canadian Legion for 61 years. Frederick passed away in 2006.
