LEST WE FORGET 287 O’CONNOR, Frances Lenora WWII Frances was born on April 3, 1917 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. She enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force (Women’s Division) on March 18, 1942 and served in Canada during World War II. After her basic training in Rockcliffe, Ontario, she was sent to the RCAF Technical Training School in St. Thomas, ON, for an accounting course. She was posted to RCAF HQ in Ottawa as a Clerk Accountant between June 1942 and April 1943. After attaining the rank of Sergeant in May 1943, she became senior NCO in charge of the RCAF Women’s Division personnel until her transfer to Vancouver in October 1944. In Vancouver, in addition to her accounting and supervision duties, she was also responsible for the preparation of discharge records. She was posted to Calgary and discharged on January 11, 1946. Frances was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and the 1939-1945 War Medal. Frances passed away on December 21, 1993. ONRAIT, Gaston BOERWAR Gaston was born in 1874 in Agra, India. He moved with his mother to France when he was a boy. At the age of 21, Gaston was appointed by the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, Queen Defender of the Faith, to be an officer in their Militia Forces as 2nd Lieutenant, 3rd Battalion, The Connaught Rangers Castlebar. In 1896, he was accepted as a medical student in Ireland. He enlisted with the British Army four years later and was sent to Africa as a British General. He came to Canada in 1903, and married and moved to a farm in Saskatchewan in 1905. Gaston passed away in 1948. OLLINGER, Samuel George WWII Samuel was born in Arbury, Saskatchewan, in 1920. He served with the 1st Brigade, Regina Rifles CAAF in Belgium, Holland and France during World War II. He received the 1939-1945 Star, France and Germany Star, Defence Medal for brave conduct, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and the War Medal 19391945. Samuel passed away in 1990.
