LEST WE FORGET 245 MACK, Edward J. WWII Edward was born in the District of Kingsford, Saskatchewan, on July 3, 1921 to Anton and Nymphia Mack. He was the fourth born son of fifteen children. In February 1943, at the age of 24, he enlisted for service in Regina. He served with the Saskatoon Light Infantry as a Machine Gunner. His service took him to Italy, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. By war’s end, he was awarded the 1939-1945 Star, Italy Star, France and Germany Star, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp and the War Medal 1939-1945. In 2016, his daughter applied for the Liberation of Holland Medal and it is proudly displayed with his other medals. Edward married Lena on October 25, 1949 and together they raised a family of five. He joined The Royal Canadian Legion Estevan Branch 60 after his return from the war, but soon withdrew choosing to keep his experience of the war locked safely away in his memory; little was ever spoken of those years. Edward passed away on May 17, 2003. MADILL, Raymond Elliot WWII Raymond was born in 1919 in Macklin, Saskatchewan. He enlisted in the Army and served with the RCA in Canada, England, and Italy until his discharge. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Foam Lake Branch 16. Raymond passed away in 1962. MacPHEAT, John Nicol WWII John was born in 1919 in Marieton, Saskatchewan. He enrolled in the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps in Regina in 1941. After training in Red Deer and Camrose, AB, he was overseas from 1943 to 1946 serving as a vehicle mechanic in England, France, Germany, Italy and Holland. He received the 1939-1945 Star, France and Germany Star, Italy Star, the Defence Medal and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp. Returning to the Marieton District, John purchased a farm where he put his blacksmith, coppersmith and mechanic training to good use. John and his wife, Kay, retired to Strasbourg. John remained active in The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 33 in Silton until his passing in 1998.
