LEST WE FORGET 229 LANOVAZ, Raymond WWII Raymond was born in 1921. He enlisted with the Army and served in Canada, the United Kingdom and Continental Europe until his discharge. He received the War Medal 1939-1945, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, the Defence Medal, the France and Germany Star and the 1939-1945 Star. Raymond passed away in 1983. LARGE, John Frederick WWII John was born on August 1, 1921 at the Grange family farm. He enlisted with the Army in Weyburn in 1939 and served as a Private overseas from 1940 to 1945 with the South Saskatchewan Regiment. He served in England, France, Holland, Poland and Germany. He farmed after returning home, and then in 1958, began working as an agent for Saskatchewan Wheat Pool in Gillespie, Briercrest and Moose Jaw until his retirement. He was a Life Member of The Royal Canadian Legion Moose Jaw Branch 59. He served as President and was a member of the Colour Party. John passed away in 1996. LaPLANTE, Michael WWII Michael was born to Hazel Tapaquon and Michael LaPlante Sr. in 1924 on the Kawacatoose First Nation in Saskatchewan, where he resided until he attended the Lestock Residential School. He joined the Army at a very young age and served with the Regina Rifle Regiment from 1943 to 1946. He was posted to England, France, Belgium, Netherlands and Germany. He worked for Canadian National Railway after being discharged from the Army. He assisted with the construction of the new mining town of Faro, Yukon. He worked for Poole Construction in Edmonton, Alberta for many years. After working in Alberta, Michael and Annie returned to the Kawacatoose First Nation where they resided for their last remaining years. He was very active and involved with Saskatchewan First Nations Veterans. Michael received the Legion of Honour in 2016 from the French government and the title of ‘Chevalier’ Knight, the highest French Order for Military and civil merits. Michael passed away in 2016.
