LEST WE FORGET 223 KOPPERUD (BURNSIDES), Irene WWII Irene was born on December 21, 1922 in Green Court, Alberta. She enlisted with the Canadian Army in Calgary in August 1943. She took her basic training in Vermillion, AB, and was then placed in Suffield, AB, in November 1943. She first served as a waitress and then as a telephone operator. She was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and was discharged in April 1945. Irene passed away on August 17, 1996. KOSHMAN, Nick WWII Nick was born in Canora District of Saskatchewan in 1922 and grew up in the Canora and Ebenezer Districts. In January 1943, he joined the Army with the Prince of Wales Rangers –Westcoast. He took his basic training in Prince George, BC. He shipped out in 1944 with the Lake Superior 4th Division. Nick served in Germany until D-Day, then served in Belgium, Czechoslovakia and in Holland until liberation where he returned to Aldershot, England, to provo care as an MP at Redding Prison where he served for one year. He returned to civilian life in 1946 to work as an elevator helper, grain buyer and then at the Yorkton Union Hospital until retirement. He is married to Margaret Tesluk and has a son and daughter. He is the recipient of the War Medal 1939-1945 and the France and Germany Star. Nick has been an active member of the Ukrainian Catholic Brotherhood and The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 77 for 58 years. KORODY, Joseph Frank George WWII Joseph was born in Stockholm, Saskatchewan, on March 7, 1920. He enlisted in the Army in Regina during World War II on October 10, 1941 and served as a Gun Mechanic. He served in Canada, England, France, Germany, Netherlands and Belgium. He received the Point Star “127”, the Defence Medal, the Service Medal, the France and Germany Star, and the 1939-1945 Star. He was a 45-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Weirdale Branch 225. Joseph passed away in 2000.
