LEST WE FORGET 221 KITCHEMONIA, R. J. WWII He was born in Keeseekoose, and he joined the Fort Garry Horse Regiment. He was killed in action on October 12, 1944 and is buried at Bergen-op-Zoom, Canadian War Cemetery in the Netherlands. His geomemorial is Kitchemonia Lake, northwest of Missinipe. KNIGHT, Sydney Wynn WWI &WWII Sydney was born in 1899 in London, England. He enlisted with the Army and served with the 209th Battalion in England and France during World War I. He was wounded in action in the spring of 1918. During the Second World War, he served at the Swift Current Airport. Sydney passed away in 1979. KNAPIK, Frank Walter “Hap” WWI Frank (nicknamed “Hap” because of his carefree disposition) was born in Rock Springs, Wyoming on June 17, 1897 to Joseph and Josephine Knapik. He was working as a farmer in Broderick when he enlisted in Winnipeg on May 4, 1916 as a member of the 221st Battalion Canadian Expeditionary Force. He later served in the 2nd Battalion of the Canadian Machine Gun Corps in operations in France where the corps played a key role in preparations for a major battle at Passchendaele. In total, Frank served eleven and a half months in Canada, twelve months in England and twelve and a half months in France. He married Sophie Tomasiewicz in 1927, and farmed south of Broderick where they raised their six children. He enjoyed sports, hunting and fishing, participating in many community activities, and maintained a positive attitude toward life until his passing in 1959. He is buried in the Broderick Cemetery.
