LEST WE FORGET 219 KIRK, Alfred George Baxenden BOERWAR &WWI Alfred was born on September 26, 1881 in England. He came to Canada and joined the North-West Mounted Police. He served in Africa during the Boer War from 1899 until 1900, and returned to the North-West Mounted Police after returning to Canada. He enlisted with the Army on October 15, 1915 and served in France for 34 months with the 1st Canadian Pioneers, Canadian Expeditionary Force. He was discharged on March 7, 1919 with the rank of Sergeant. He was awarded the Military Medal and Oak Leaf for 2nd citation for bravery. Alfred passed away in 1952. KIRK, Victor Alfred WWII Victor was born on June 27, 1916 in Abernethy, Saskatchewan. He enlisted with the Army on September 11, 1939, volunteering for service the first day after the declaration of war. He served with the RCE Corps as an Engineer Fitter in Canada, England, Sicily, Italy, France and the Netherlands until his discharge on August 31, 1945. He received the Victory Medal, the Italian Star, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, the European Star and the African Star. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Abernethy Branch. Victor passed away on August 1, 1995. KIRK, Roy Thomas Baxenden WWII Roy was born on February 4, 1920 in Abernethy, Saskatchewan. He enlisted with the Royal Canadian Air Force on January 2, 1941. He served in Canada and the United Kingdom as an Aero-Engine Mechanic until his discharge on August 13, 1945 after four years and 223 days of service. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. Roy passed away in 1992 in Vancouver, BC.
