LEST WE FORGET 203 INCHES, George Henderson WWI George was born in August 2, 1895 in Scone, Perthshire, Scotland. He enlisted in the Army on May 31, 1914 with the Royal Scots. He served during World War I in Scotland and Europe, and was wounded in France. He was awarded the 1914-1915 Star, the British War Medal and the British Victory Medal and was discharged at Woolwich Dockyard on September 27, 1918. George married Edith Elva May Bates on January 1, 1936 and had a son, Charles Keith, and daughter, Diana Elva Mary. He was an active member of The Royal Canadian Legion in Leader and Weyburn. He was a member of the Sask Veterans Civil Service Corps and a member of the Frontiersmen. George passed away on April 23, 1957. JAHNKE, Lawrence John WWII Lawrence was born on August 19, 1920 in Main Center, Saskatchewan. He enlisted with the Army on July 12, 1940 and served as a Hospital Orderly at various places in Canada until his discharge on March 30, 1946. He married Helen George in December 1947 in Herbert, SK. In the spring of 1948, they moved to Tompkins where they purchased the Nesbitt ranch. They lived on the ranch for over 55 years, working hard and raising five children. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Tompkins Branch for fifteen years. Lawrence passed away on August 11, 2006. ISRALSON, Glen Herbert WWII Glen Isralson was born in Outlook on June 21, 1920. His parents were Evan and Jessie who farmed in the Wingelo District between Glenside and Hanley. He was attending Saskatoon Normal School to become a teacher when he enlisted in the RCAF on April 27, 1940. He died on March 10, 1942 at age 21, when his aircraft crashed into the Bedford Basin in Nova Scotia during a snowstorm. His body was found floating an hour later. He is buried in Fort Massey Cemetery in Halifax. Flight Sergeant Isralson was interested in all sports. He was described in a letter of recommendation as “quick, organized and possessing initiative.”
