LEST WE FORGET 187 HEMING, Cecil Davis WWII Cecil was a Flight Sergeant in the Canadian Air Force and served as a Gunner. He was killed in action when his Halifax aircraft was shot down near St. Trond during an operation against Pilzen, Czechoslovakia. Cecil was originally buried at St. Trond, Belgium. He was single and only 22 years old. He is on the Village of Pelly Honour Roll. Cecil was the son of Cecil F. and Marion Heming of Langford, BC. HILL, George Lewis WWII George was born on June 7, 1919 in Birch Hills, Saskatchewan. He enlisted with the Army on January 16, 1942 and served with the Elgin Regiment as a Cook. He served in England, Holland, France and Germany until his discharge on November 21, 1945. He received the following medals: 19391945 Star, France and Germany Star, 1939-1945 Canada Volunteer Service Medal with red, green and black ribbon. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Birch Hills Branch 122 for fifty years. George passed away on November 2, 1998. HEMSWORTH, James Taft WWII Pilot Officer James Taft Hemsworth was born in Outlook on February 7, 1918, the son of William and Clara Hemsworth. His siblings included Alice, Merle, Earl and Robert. He and his family moved to Gull Lake in 1925. He worked as a hardware store clerk until he enlisted with the RCAF on June 18, 1940. He trained at Boundary Bay, BC, and was deployed to the Mediterranean on reconnaissance, mine-laying and anti-submarine missions. His Wellington MG796 was shot down over the Aegean Sea on February 9, 1944 and his body was never recovered. James Taft Hemsworth is commemorated, along with 11,871 other airmen with no known graves, at the Alamein Memorial in Egypt.
