LEST WE FORGET 157 GILCHRIST, James R. WWII James was born on August 4, 1918 in Foam Lake, Saskatchewan. He enlisted in the Army and served with the South Saskatchewan Regiment in Canada, England and Europe. He was a Prisoner of War for nine months in Germany. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Foam Lake Branch for 54 years. James passed away in 2000. GILES, Fredrick Howard WWI Fredrick was born in 1898 in Radisson, Saskatchewan. He enlisted with the Army and served with the 188th Battalion and with the 46th Battalion, Saskatchewan Regiment in France. Fredrick was killed in action in Belgium in 1917. He received the British War Medal and the Victory Medal. GILCHRIST, Robert Murdoch WWII Robert was born on October 18, 1922 in Foam Lake, Saskatchewan. He enlisted with the RCAF in November 1942. On December 7, 1942, he attended the Brandon Training Unit as an Air Cadet of World War II, training as Mid-Upper Gunner. In October 1943, he headed to Scotland and his training unit was formed there. He became an official member of Squadron #78 and his crew completed 39 operational tours. In August 1944, his commission was granted as Pilot Officer. He became an Instructor for the Gun Turret Simulator in England from September 1944 until February 1945. Robert passed away in February 2000.
