LEST WE FORGET 141 FOSTER, Andrew Edwin WWII Andrew was born on July 22, 1911 in Abernethy, Saskatchewan. In 1939, soon after the outbreak of World War II, he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force. He was sent to England and attached to the Royal Air Force where he received training in the new technology of radar. He was sent to West Africa and later Sierra Leone. He returned to Canada in 1946. He spent time at RCAF stations in BC and the Maritimes teaching technical radio and radar education. Andrew passed away in January 2, 1989 in Ottawa. FOSTER, Kenneth Gordon “Ken” WWII Ken was born on October 6, 1921 in Abernethy, Saskatchewan. He signed up with the RCAF in 1949. He took his training to become a pilot at Mossbank, SK, Air Base. He was sent to England where he was attached to a bomber squadron and made eight bombing raids over occupied Europe. He held the rank of Flying Officer. He returned to Canada and was demobilized. He went to University, was married and then re-enlisted with the RCAF where he became an instructor. It was in that capacity while stationed at Portage la Prairie that Kenneth was involved in a fatal crash on April 7, 1955. FOSTER, Donald R. KOREANWAR & VIETNAMWAR Donald was born on July 19, 1931 in Assiniboia, Saskatchewan. He joined the Canadian Forces as a Gunner in 1949. He was commissioned in 1950 and sent to Korea for one year. In 1953, he was given the honour to be one of the four contingent riders of the RCHA in the coronation ceremony of Queen Elizabeth II. Upon returning, he commenced pilot training and joined the AOPF as an Army Pilot. In 1957, he was deployed to Vietnam for one year. In 1970, he became Deputy Commanding Officer. He served numerous staff positions throughout his career, retiring in 1986. Donald passed away on September 6, 2006.
