LEST WE FORGET 131 ELLIS, Wesley Creighton “Wes” WWII Wesley was born 1920 in Estevan, Saskatchewan. He moved to the Killdeer District at the age of eight. He attended Frontier School. He worked for his uncle and neighbors on their ranches. He joined the Army on February 5, 1942, enlisting at Regina, then to Moose Jaw with KORC, and then took Buffalo training with Kents in Wainwright, AB. He was stationed in Terrace, Prince Rupert and Tofino, BC. He was fully trained in Infantry, worked two and a half years as driver of trucks and carriers and took a six-month course in motor mechanics. He served 47 months with eight months in the UK, Belgium and Holland. He sailed from Halifax on the SS Aquitania and came back on the SS Queen Elizabeth to New York then by rail to Canada. He was discharged on February 20, 1946. He worked at many different jobs. He married Peggy Disney in 1951 and they farmed in the Killdeer area, raising three children. They left the farm due to his ill health in 1981 and moved into Rockglen. Wes passed away in 2001. He had been a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 17 in Assiniboia for several years. ELVIN, Ernest William WWI Ernest was born in 1896 in Horncastle, Lincoln, England. He joined the Canadian Overseas Expeditionary Forces on November 9, 1917 and served in England with the Canadian Corps Reinforcement Co. in France from April to May 1918. He was discharged on April 23, 1919 in Montreal. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion in Stenen, Saskatchewan. Ernest passed away in 1977. ELLWOOD, Fredrick WWII In 1941, Fredrick joined the 14th Canadian Hussars and saw active duty in Holland, France and Germany. He returned from the war and joined the RCMP stationed in Lethbridge, AB. In 1947, he worked in Regina and Edmonton as an elevator agent at Legoff. In 1948, he worked for an oil company and was accidentally killed at Fiske, SK, in 1951, with burial at Edmonton. Fredrick had one son, William.
