LEST WE FORGET 129 EGILSSON, Hannes WWI Hannes was born in Logberg, Saskatchewan, in 1892. He enlisted in the Army in the summer of 1917 during World War I. He was drafted in March 1918 and served in Canada and England. He received the British War Medal. After discharge in 1919, he returned to the family farm. Hannes passed away in 1964. ELL, Joseph Edward WWII Joseph was born on March 6, 1919 in Dilke, Saskatchewan. He enlisted with the RCAF. He was sent to England where he became a member of the 15 Squadron of the RAF. Along with his crew he completed a tour of operational duty in action against the enemy and received the Distinguished Flying Cross presented to him by the King at Buckingham Palace. The citation of this award reads as follows: “This officer has completed numerous operations against the enemy in the course of which he has invariably displayed the utmost fortitude, courage and devotion of duty.” Joseph passed away in 2004. EGILSSON, Jon Robert WWII Jon was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, on March 1, 1921. He enlisted in the Army on April 30, 1941 with the 65 Canadian Tank Transporter Company. He served in Canada, Britain and Northwestern Europe during World War II. He was discharged on November 29, 1945. Jon acquired land through the Veterans’ Land Act in 1947. He sold the farm in 1971 and became involved in the overhead door business in Langley, BC, and Red Deer, AB. He was married to Grace and a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 35 in Red Deer. Jon passed away in 1991.
